Is there life after abortion?

“Truly, in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains; truly, in the Lord our God is the salvation of Israel” (Jeremiah 3:23 (NKJV).

The answer is Jesus. It doesn’t matter what the question is; the answer is Jesus!

He is the answer for every problem and every need. His death on the cross bought us eternal redemption, healing, deliverance, prosperity, peace, liberty and protection.

He is the one who rises up to provide for us and defend us. He is the one who calls to us when we are alone and His fellowships with us. He is the one who never lets us down or leaves us.

He is with us at every turn and His eyes are always on us. He sings over us, teaches us, nurtures us, protects us, and leads us. We are always safe in His arms and He does not disappoint.

Look to Him, trust Him, wait on Him, He will come through.

“Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers o the diving nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Peter 1:2-4 (NKJV).

Nov. 18, 2009

The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you
cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is
with everyone born of the Spirit. -John 3:8

It was late one night when a Pharisee named Nicodemus came to
Jesus. Like many others, he had seen Jesus teaching. He had seen
the miracles. He knew something was different about this man, and
he had to know. Who was he? Who was he really?

In the course of the conversation that night Jesus tells
Nicodemus that he must be “born again.” (So much for Jesus making
everything easy to understand, right?) To understand the force of
this statement, we need to put ourselves in the place of
Nicodemus.

You see, for us, the term “born again” has all kinds
of images and theological meaning attached to it. For Nicodemus,
he had never heard of such a thing before. What could this all
mean? What on earth is Jesus talking about?

What we often forget about this exchange is that Jesus is not
finished after telling Nicodemus that he needs to be “born
again.” Jesus offers a glimpse of the mystery of what He is
talking about. “The wind blows wherever it pleases…”

What Jesus has to say is brilliant… and mysterious. The term
for “wind” and the term for “spirit” are one and same word -
pneuma. What Jesus is saying to Nicodemus is this: The ways of
God are mysterious, as mysterious as the wind.

You can’t fully explain it; you can’t fully grasp it. Trying to fully comprehend
the spirit (pneuma) is like trying to fully comprehend the wind
(pneuma).

Somewhere along the line, we’ve fallen in love with certainty.
We feel that in order to “know” something we need to have an
ironclad understanding of the thing. Questions that are left
unanswered are seen as quests to be conquered. What results is a
reduction of mystery to formula.

What I find fascinating is that Nicodemus walks away from Jesus
without a clear understanding of what Jesus is talking about, and
that’s okay with Jesus. He doesn’t walk away with a three-step
formula for being “born again.”

The story, much like the point Jesus is getting at, is unresolved, a mystery that forces Nicodemus, as well as the reader, to walk away… thinking,
pondering, wondering, and searching.

Faith is a lifelong journey of discovery. Just when you awaken
to a new understanding of the depth of who God is, you discover
there is something still beyond. Its okay not to have it all
figured out. It’s okay not to have all the answers worked out in
a nice and easy package.

Apparently, seeing faith as an open-ended quest is okay. It was
for Jesus and Nicodemus.

If we had all the answers, it wouldn’t be called faith, now
would it?

by Helen Lescheid
August 24, 2009

Cursed is the one who trusts in man who depends on flesh for strength…he will be like a bush in the wastelands; he will not see prosperity when it comes. But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they go right on producing delicious fruit” (Jeremiah 17:7,8 Application Bible).

What do you do when your life is falling apart? When adversity strikes from every side? Jeremiah describes two kinds of responses with two striking results
1. You can depend on friends and family to see you through it.

2. You can depend on God to give you strength and courage for every day

“If you put your trust in mere humans you’ll be like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future,” writes Jeremiah. Friends and family will want to help, but they may be as confused as you are. Instead of listening and praying, they tend to give advice and pat answers. They may judge the situation unfairly and even blame you. Very few people know how to truly help.

On the contrary, those who trust in God not only endure the heat and the drought: they stay green and flourish. Why? They have a resource within them–the living risen Lord Jesus Christ. I’ve experienced this in a very real way. Let me share with you an excerpt from my journal.

“From every side adversity’s ax is chopping into the tree (me), but it’s still standing. Why? Because the core is solid. The ax can’t penetrate it. That core is Christ Himself. Jesus Christ is my hope. Because He’s within me, I have hope. I get ragged at the edges, but my core is solid, for Christ is my core.”

We must nourish this Christ-life within us by putting our roots deep into the living water of His Word. There is no fear that the river will run dry for Christ’s resources never run out. I must guard against any obstruction, though, like bitterness or an unforgiving spirit or any other sin that will obstruct the flow of His life-giving water.

Dear God, thank you that in Christ I have all that I need not only to survive the heat and the drought, but to flourish. Thank you, also, that you meet my need in very practical ways, and You send along the right persons to help me.

Editor’s Note: Originally written by Charles H. Spurgeon, published in “Mornings & Evenings,” entry for December 16th, AM.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon (June 19, 1834 – January 31, 1892) was a British Reformed Baptist preacher who remains highly influential amongst Christians of different denominations, among whom he is still known as the “Prince of Preachers.” He is one of the most famous preachers of the late 19th century. He regularly preached to audiences of over 10,000 people, all before the time of electronic amplification. He also founded the charity organization now known as Spurgeon’s, that works worldwide with families and children, as well as a famous theological college which after his death was called after him: Spurgeon’s College.
Jesus asks you to come closer to Him. Grow closer to God through our “Portraits of the Christ” online interactive Bible studies.

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28

The cry of the Christian faith is the gentle word, “Come.” The Jewish law harshly said, “Go, step carefully on the path in which you walk. If you break the commandments, you will perish; keep them, and you will live.” The law was a burden even as it was a blessing, which drove men and women before it harshly; the gospel draws with arms of love.

Jesus is the good Shepherd going before His sheep, urging them follow Him, and always leading them onwards with the sweet word, “Come.” The law repels, the gospel attracts. The law shows the distance which there is between God and man; the gospel bridges that awful chasm, and brings the sinner across it.

From the first moment of your spiritual life until you are ushered into glory, the language of Christ to you will be, “Come, come to me.” As a mother puts out her finger to her little child and woos it to walk by saying, “Come,” even so does Jesus. He will always be ahead of you, urging you follow Him as the soldier follows his captain. He will always go before you to pave your way, and clear your path, and you will hear His winsome voice calling you after Him all through your life. Later, in the solemn hour of death, His sweet words with which He will usher you into the heavenly world will be “Come, you who are so blessed of my Father.”

This is not only Christ’s cry to you, but, if you are a believer, this is your cry to Christ: “Come! come!” You will be longing for His second coming; you will be saying, “Come quickly, come Lord Jesus.” You will be yearning for nearer and closer communion with Him. As His voice calls to you “Come,” your response to Him will also be “Come, Lord, and live with me. Come, and occupy alone the throne of my heart; reign there without a rival, and dedicate me entirely to Your service.”

Questions: When God calls you, are you ready to hear and obey? How can you prepare your mind and heart?
