In last Saturday’s letter [To the Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Ohio] “Fuss over stolen e-mails obscures real dangers of climate change,” David A. Scott essentially told readers, “Don’t pay any attention to that man behind the curtain”—that is, the “wizard” projecting all of the doom and gloom onto the screen in an effort to scare us with a vision of impending disaster and of his wizardly power to save us from it.
No, he says, just ignore the fact that he and his global-warming alarmist colleagues have just been caught cooking the books in an effort to perpetrate the biggest hoax in recorded history.
Instead, he pleads, please continue to look at and be impressed by all of the bogus data and manufactured scientific conclusions they have been bombarding us with for the past 20 years in an effort to get us to buy into “global warming” and the need for us to give them, the scientific, intellectual elite, more and more money and more and more power over our lives.
Earth is warming, they’ve told us, so we have to pay them billions and billions of dollars to fix it, and, oh, by the way, surrender virtually all of our freedom and our way of life in the bargain.
Then, all of a sudden, a truly inconvenient truth, for global-warming alarmists, came along: an overwhelming, incontrovertible tsunami of data showing that, in fact, the Earth has been cooling for the past 10 years.
Oops! Talk about inconvenient and embarrassing. Oh well, they said, they know what to do, now that it is clear they can’t continue to bamboozle people with the whopper they’ve been trying to get us to swallow these past 10 or 15 years.
Now they’ll just call it climate change and hope we don’t notice the difference and forget that they used to call it global warming. Now they’ve been caught suppressing evidence, doctoring results, distorting and misinterpreting data for years and years, all in an effort to continue the scam, and they say this is a distraction from the real problem of climate change?
On the contrary, climategate finally has revealed the real problem: namely, a vast conspiracy of scientists and politicians and bureaucrats who want power and money and see this climate-change flimflam as their best way to achieve it.
Scare the world with the specter of rising oceans and flooded seaports, these alarmists and elites reason, and the common people will be putty in their hands, perfectly willing to turn over our bank accounts and our personal freedoms so that they can “save” us from it, while they laugh all the way to the bank and to positions of permanent, uncontested, unimaginable power.
If people want to know what is really going on, to wake up and open their eyes and see this monumental fraud and shakedown in all of its appalling squalor and sinister potential, then pick up a few good books that will tell you the real story:
Green Hell, by Steve Milloy; Red Hot Lies, by Christopher Horner; The Really Inconvenient Truths, by Iain Murray; Climate of Extremes, by Patrick Michaels and Robert Balling Jr.; and The Deniers, by Lawrence Solomon, to mention just a few.
If people don’t wake up, they’ll find that they are a whole lot poorer and a whole lot less free than they ever imagined they could be in the United States.
