Once again, saber rattling from Tehran shows us that the tipping point may be on the horizon for a conflict between Israel and Iran. Tehran leadership is not merely flaunting its strengths, but is actively telling the world that Israel will be the one to lead the region and the world into conflict, possibly on a more wide spread basis than just in the middle east.

Using rhetoric meant to send a clear and concise message, Iranian military leaders are not just showing their wares, but are also blatantly goading the Israelis.

In its the second day of maneuvers, in its five-day exercises dubbed “Asemane Velayat 2″, The Commander of Iran’s Khatamol-Anbia anti-aircraft unit Brigadier General Gholamhossein Molaei said Monday that the “Iranian forces have displayed their ability to swiftly react to any jamming and electronic warfare in the second stage of the war games, according to IRNA.”

He also said on Saturday that the “maneuver is aimed at developing the country’s aerial defense against any potential attacks — especially on the country’s nuclear facilities.” This not only directly implies they are ready for Israel, should it decide to attack, but also the USA and its allies.

It is only too clear that Iran has been building up at breakneck speed, not only its nuclear capabilities, but also its conventional armaments. The threats were repeated only last week when Gabi Ashkenazi, the chief-of-staff of Israel’s armed forces, dropped heavy hints at an upcoming attack on Iran according to Iran’s Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force, Amir Ali Hajizadeh.

He warned “that Israel will pay a high price if it decides to commit such a mistake.”

Though the efforts are the largest the Iranian government has ever staged, including virtually everyone from the RGC (Revolutioanry Guard) to its regular army and air forces, the Iranians made a special point of telling the world, that “despite Russia’s failure to deliver the S-300 missiles under a previously agreed deal, [it does] not mean that Iran desperately needs the system to protect its airspace.” Codenamed ‘the SA-20 Gargoyle’ by NATO, the S-300 is a mobile land-based system designed to shoot down aircraft and cruise missiles.

The Iranians think the deal was nixed because of Israel’s hard lobbying of Russian leaders to stop the $800 million deal.

With this burr in their side, it is clear that Iran believes it must set a posture to counter such lobbying by Israel especially after word came out that Netanyahu was in Moscow in early September on a secret mission. These war games are just the thing to drive Iranian points home.

The rhetoric from Tehran’s military leaders makes this plain to see as they insist they are “capable of mass-producing replicas of the controversial Russian made missiles in the near future.” Pentagon adviser Dan Goure siad ” “If Tehran obtained the S-300, it would be a game-changer.” But mass producing replicas, may already be underway, and the “game-changer” may be in the mix in the near future.”

Operation Sucker Punch

The read of the day in light of the latest in the middle east:
